Deceptively titled "Religious Freedom and Civil Marriage Protection Act

From Capitol Resource Institute - READ - PRAY - ACT - now!

This is a very important week to contact your legislators as gay marriage will heard in committee

You can make a difference on this issue by making your voice heard. Please begin writing, faxing and calling your legislators now!

Gay Marriage

AB 43 -Homosexual Marriage

Deceptively titled "Religious Freedom and Civil Marriage Protection Act", AB 43 seeks to redefine marriage as being between two people-regardless of gender. Despite the fact that California voters overwhelmingly approved Proposition 22, which clearly defined traditional marriage as between one man and one woman, homosexual radicals will once again try to subvert the will of the people with homosexual marriage legislation.

Because marriage is such an important issue, CRI has published a bulletin insert for churches. Visit our web site to download the insert for your church.

AB 43 Bulletin Insert

AB 43 is scheduled for a hearing in the Assembly Judiciary Committee on Tuesday,

AB 1009-Fetal Pain Prevention
This bill would require an abortion doctor to inform a woman he/she can administer anesthesia to the unborn child to alleviate the pain the child would experience during the abortion.

AB 1511-Government Sex Education for Parents
This arrogant bill would establish the "Family Communication Public Education Campaign," a continuing public education program that "provides parenting adults with the knowledge, understanding, and communication skills necessary to talk with their children about sex and sexuality." It is also extremely arrogant for lawmakers to believe that they know better than parents how to educate children about sex.

AB 1009 and AB 1511 are scheduled for a hearing in the Assembly Health Committee on Tuesday, April 10.

Please contact your Assemblymember, the members of the Assembly Heath Committee and urge a
YES vote on AB 1009
NO vote on AB 1511.

California Family Council - Update - April 1

Dear Praying Friend,

In Sacramento, after a winter of cold, dreary weather, spring arrives with an abundance of vibrant blooms and warm sunshine. The air is fresh and clean, and life begins anew. Easter reminds us of the same, as we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord, Christ Jesus.

Also, in Sacramento, staff at California Family Council spends the winter months of December, January and February sorting through hundreds of bill introductions only to find – once again – a dearth of bills negatively impacting California laws and culture. Yet, along with these hostile, menacing bills – often even worse than the preceding year’s – there are nuggets of hope.

  • Legislators introduce dozens of bills that would protect parental authority, the sanctity of life, and marriage as between a man and a woman. These legislators and their staffs speak up to promote the voices of citizens – parents and pastors – in Capitol halls.
  • Citizens remain engaged with the legislative process and actively voice their opinions on pieces of legislation.
  • Last month, Assembly members heeded the voices of parents and agreed to rewrite legislation that would mandate seventh-grade girls receive a vaccine for a sexually transmitted disease.
  • Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger intends to veto homosexual “marriage” legislation should it again pass the Legislature.

With Easter and spring, hope is born anew in our hearts, spurring us to continue in the struggle to protect the Judeo-Christian principles in our laws and culture. We serve a powerful God, one who cares, who is all-sufficient, and who delights to work wonders in our lives. Pray for sustained optimism and unrelenting obedience along with a long endurance in the efforts to work continually to recast California laws and culture in a manner befitting God’s best.

This month, pray for a rejuvenation of citizen involvement, and that legislators, who are on break March 29-April 8, will return to the Capitol with fresh inspiration and insight, and resolve to respect and to protect their constituents’ interests.

Happy Easter!

California Family Council

P.S. CFC’s bimonthly prayer guides can also be found online at www.californiafamily.org.

Please Pray...

· and praise God this Easter for His gift of new life – through Christ’s death and resurrection!

...for the protection of life

· that physician-assisted suicide legislation (Assembly Bill 374) would again meet defeat in the Legislature. Tuesday, instead of protecting the sanctity of life, legislators in the Assembly Judiciary Committee were swayed by arguments favoring “freedom” and “autonomy.” They passed this legislation that would threaten the frail and the disabled onto the Assembly Appropriations Committee. Pray that God would convict legislators of the truth that He is the author and sustainer of all human life; even those whom humans might deem “worthless” are valuable in God’s view. Pray that Californians would not be swayed by judgments promoting the value of one life over another.

· for legislation being considered in Sacramento that would maximize the abstinence message with our young people. Although millions of federal dollars are available for abstinence education, California is the only state never to have accepted it. Pray that, as legislators in the Assembly Health Committee consider the matter on April 17, they will honestly debate AB 708 and the discussion would bring an added awareness to the public and to policy makers.

...for the sanctity of marriage

· that churches and parents would be faithful in instructing children and youth about marriage as God designed it – between one man and one woman. Pray for those enslaved by prideful, homosexual behavior and promiscuity.

· for legislators on the Assembly Judiciary Committee who will consider the latest homosexual “marriage” bill on April 10. Should the legislation again pass the California Legislature, pray for the governor’s unwavering resolve to veto it.

...for parental authority

· that legislators would honor parental authority and responsibility in considering bills that impact what a child learns about sexuality and homosexuality. Pray that parents would accept the responsibility they have for raising moral, God-honoring citizens and that they would not abdicate their rights to the state and public education.

...for California families

· for those who attended Focus on the Family’s the Truth Project in Sacramento March 23-24. Pray they would take what they learned about Christian worldview back to their churches and communities, that they would apply their new understanding, and that the seeds of that knowledge would permeate California communities and culture. Pray also for those who will attend the upcoming southern California Truth Project conference in Yorba Linda on April 27-28.

· for the many Californians who deny God’s truth and callously replace it with self-centered lies and rationalizations favoring homosexual “marriage,” abortion, physician-assisted suicide, divorce, abuse, and pornography.

“For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation. He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be greatly moved.” – Psalm 62:1-2

Legislation to measure aquifer faces opposition
By Hank Shaw, Stockton Record
No one knows how much water Californians pump from the ground, and legislation to find out faces opposition from an agricultural community that fears the knowledge might lead to regulation and rationing. At issue is a fundamental question: When farmers or cities draw water from wells, are they dipping into a resource shared by everyone, or are they exercising a right of landownership? The lakes of water beneath the Central Valley form, collectively, the second-most-pumped aquifer in the nation: So much water has been sucked out of the ground that the land above has sunk in some places.

Some hopeful the peripheral canal's time is finally here
By Hank Shaw, Stockton Record
The Peripheral Canal. Its very name swells arteries and closes minds. For a quarter-century, the idea of a canal linking the Sacramento River to the giant water pumps in Tracy - bypassing the Delta - has been so politically toxic that the phrase "peripheral canal" is never mentioned by its supporters, who have taken to calling it "the bagel," only half in jest. Times have changed.

The hidden hand behind HPV campaign
By the Orange County Register
Everyone knows big companies lobby Congress and state legislatures heavily to rig the game in their favor. But we've rarely seen a more blatant attempt to fill a corporation's coffers by manipulating the political system, or regulate itself a market, than we're seeing in the case of pharmaceutical giant Merck & Co, the hidden hand behind a national push to require that teenage girls be immunized against human papilloma virus, HPV, a sexually transmitted disease linked to cervical cancer.

Health nut tougher to crack
By Dan Walters, Sacramento Bee
Schwarzenegger's health care approach, however, is catching it from both ideological sides. Democrats want a state-operated "single payer" system or at least some tougher regulation of health care insurers, and complain about costs to middle-income families. Republicans dislike the billions of dollars in taxes on employers and health care providers that the governor wants to call fees and oppose covering illegal immigrants. And, of course, those who would have to cough up the money are not pleased.

Who will help pick the judges?
By STEVE BARIC and KEITH CARLSON, Orange County Register
With this month's resignation of Republican John Davies, Gov. Schwarzenegger must select a new judicial appointments secretary. What makes the timing of this selection so important is the fact that the governor will appoint 50 new Superior Court Judges this spring. His secretary will have a major impact on whether these appointments are conservative Republicans or liberal Democrats.

Let these limits follow Brown to retirement
By George Skelton, Los Angeles Times
Willie Brown has been gone from the Legislature for almost 12 years and he isn't coming back. So maybe some voters out there will realize it's now safe to ease up on term limits.

Blessings and Grace to you!

As a service to the body of Christ in California, the Governor's Prayer Team is hosting a Prayer Conference Call for leaders in our state to have an opportunity to corporately agree and fulfill the biblical mandate to pray for those in authority over us in 1 Tim 2:1-2.

I honor your ministry to your region and our state and thank you for all the ways and years you have sacrificed to see God's standard of prayer raised in our state. I believe the Lord wants to encourage you and bless you, because of your faithfulness. I also believe that as the leaders go into the gap for our state, together, we will see the Lord pour out a fresh anointing of prayer on the churches in our regions which will further propel us toward fulfilling God's goals for us.

When the Lord called me to serve as coordinator for this ministry, I was impressed that my assignment was to network the ministries that are already in place so we can petition our Lord as "the body of Christ in California." I believe the Lord has shown me that as every joint fitly supplies and we let our voices be raised to him "in one accord" with what the scriptures say, we will see the breakthrough that we have all been longing to see all the years we have been serving Him. We will be fulfilling Jesus' prayer in John 17:21 as we unite. With all of the negative reports and words being given regarding our state, I am impressed that this is more important than ever, so the Lord's plan of healing and restoration of our state will be enforced instead of the enemy's plan for destruction.

Attached you will find a scriptural prayer guide for us to use to come into agreement with God's word for our state. I welcome any and all imput from leaders such as yourself as to any further issues we might want to include etc. In addition, I have attach a flyer for another ministry who is willing to serve you in establishing 1 Tim 2:1-2 monthly prayer meetings in your area. I am also willing to further serve you in facilitating your own 1 Tim 2:1-2 conference calls in your area, by supplying you with your own conference call number and access code, for your region. It would be up to you to determine how often you would want them.

I have two available times for you to call, depending on what works best with your schedule, Thursday evenings at 8:PM or Tuesday mornings @ 5:AM. These calls will only be one hour in duration. "Could you not tarry one hour," was the scripture I felt the Lord gave me when I felt him leading me in this direction.
The conference calls are free with the exception of the phone charges which will be minimum due to the times picked for these calls. Most cell phones allow you to call for free at these times.

The Conference Call number is:
Dial in: 563-843-7429 Access Code: 568978#

I will look forward to praying with you!

Shades of Grey
Arnold Schwarzenegger and the road to national health care
By JOHN FUND, Wall Street Journal
Arnold Schwarzenegger used to claim he admired Ronald Reagan most "because he stuck by his principles when others wouldn't." But with his Rube Goldberg health plan Mr. Schwarzenegger has demonstrated that at his core he prefers roles more suited to Tricky Dick than the Gipper. Should he succeed, the long-term dream of nationalized health care held by Ted Kennedy, and Hillary Clinton, will be closer to reality than ever.

No GOP health plan -- yet
By Steve Wiegand, Sacramento Bee
The nice people in Senate President Pro Tempore Don Perata's office recently provided the running dogs of the media with a side-by-side-by-side comparison of the three Democratic health care reform plans put forth by Perata, Assembly Speaker Fabian Núñez and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. OK, make that two Democratic plans and a "centrist" plan. Though thoughtful, the effort clearly lacked a certain breadth in that there was no Republican plan.

California's alternative fuels plan
By Arnold Schwarzenegger, San Francisco Chronicle
The U.S. House of Representatives is scheduled to debate legislation today aimed at reducing our dependence on foreign oil, and I am glad to see Washington finally focus on this vital issue. But in California, we're not waiting for Washington to act.

Governor's fall appears to lift his oratory skills
By George Skelton, Los Angeles Times
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger hasn't lost a step with his broken leg. In fact, he probably has gained ground on crutches.

The mayor's bully pulpit
By the Los Angeles Times
Villaraigosa's latest LAUSD plan is ambitious. If only he actually had control of the schools.

Looking to taxpayers for cold cash
By the Orange County Register
If the government bails out California farmers, they'll never prepare for the next crippling frost.

Farther out the limb: Drivers will pay for governor's climate plan
By the San Diego Union-Tribune
In yet another bold step to save the planet, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has decreed that California's motor fuels shall contain less of the carbon-stuffed chemicals that contribute to climate change. Whether this will do anything at all to slow global warming is highly doubtful. But drivers can be dead certain that the governor's Low Carbon Fuel Standard will cost them money – lots of money.

Governor Backs Bush

Governor backs Bush plan to send more troops to Iraq
"We should give it everything in order to be victorious"
By Carla Marinucci, San Francisco Chronicle

After months of preaching the strengths of political centrism -- and doggedly avoiding partisan controversy -- Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has taken a position on one of the nation's most divisive issues, backing President Bush's call for a troop escalation in Iraq. ABC News reported Friday that Schwarzenegger is strongly supporting Bush's call for a troop surge in Iraq, saying that "we should give it everything.'' The governor's comments came in an interview with ABC News' George Stephanopoulos to be aired Sunday morning on "This Week with George Stephanopoulous.'' The network Friday night released excerpts from the interview (blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/) and quoted the Republican governor as saying of the president's call for more troops that "we should give it everything in order to be victorious."
